MOTHERLY COMPASSION – GREEN TARA THANGKA
DREULJANG (tib.) for Green Tara is the most popular form of the Taras, also known as Arya Tara or Vasya Tara. She is the consort of Amoghasiddhi, (one of the dhyani buddhas that stays in the North, representing Action.
Her Green colour is that of the active Enlightenment of Feminine Compassion and indicates that the Tara is always willing and ready to help the needy that pray to, her with the rapidity of wind. For this reason she is also known as the Prompt.
This particular Thangka is reflects the nature of the Green Tara and can be considered a high quality Thangka. There are many variations in the way that the Green Tara can be represented in a Thangka. In this piece, she is set on a simple yet exquisite background, which allows all the focus to remain on the Tara.
THE MANTRA OF THE GREEN TARA
" OM TARE TUTTARE TURE SOHA "
This translates literally as “I prostrate to the Liberator, Mother of all the Victorious Ones". The meaning of the Tara and her Mantra is much deeper.
