About Manjushri & Jambhala
This Thangka depicts Manjushri, the God of Divine Wisdom, and Yellow Dzambhala, the embodiment of prosperity and wealth.
Manjushri is a bodhisattva of insight (prajñā) and is revered for his wisdom. In Buddhist tradition, Manjushri is believed to have founded Nepalese civilization and created the Kathmandu Valley. Manjushri holds a sword of light and wisdom in his right hand, symbolizing the cutting of ignorance. His left hand holds the Prajnaparmita manuscript, the book of Divine Wisdom, resting on a lotus blossom. His image is often associated with compassionate wisdom and the awakening mind.
Yellow Dzambhala is a revered prosperity deity. He is often seen seated with his right leg extended and his left leg pulled in, symbolizing wealth and generosity. His most distinctive feature is the mongoose named Nehulay in his left hand, representing his ability to subjugate the nagas (snakes) and spew forth precious jewels and treasures. Dzambhala also holds medicinal citron fruits in his right hand, known for their healing properties, including the relief of fever. This powerful deity can eliminate poverty and generate virtue, wisdom, and long life for his devotees. He is an emanation of Ratnasambhava, symbolizing the elimination of material and spiritual poverty.

Preparing the Cotton canvas before starting to paint a Thangka. This process includes washing, drying, stretching, sizing and everything needed to make a perfect base for the thangka to last for centuries.
Thangka paintings are painted using natural minerals such as agate, gold, silver, cinnabar, saffron, ocher, rhubarb,lapis and many other minerals. To create the ideal pigment for painting, these materials are ground several times. This makes the materials even more durable and long-lasting. Thus, you can surely expect the color of the Thangka to withstand the test of time.
The gold in the ornaments and detailing is made from real gold dust.
