Bhaisajyaguru, also known as the Medicine Buddha or Healing Buddha, is revered for his ability to provide spiritual and physical healing. It is believed that simply touching his image can bring about a cure. In Tibetan Buddhism, he may be represented as either a Buddha or Bodhisattva. When shown as a Buddha, he possesses the four superior marks of a Buddha, including the urn (a small protuberance above the nose) and Ushinisha (a bulge on the skull). He is depicted with short, curly hair and wears a monastic robe. His left hand, in meditation mudra, usually holds the medicine bowl, while his right hand, in charity mudra, holds a branch with fruit or the fruit alone from the myrobalan plant, which is known for its medicinal properties.
Key Symbolism:
- Healing Power: Bhaisajyaguru is associated with healing and the alleviation of suffering, both physical and spiritual.
- Medicine Bowl: Represents the sacred elixir of life and healing that the Buddha offers to those in need.
- Myrobalan Fruit: Symbolizes the medicinal plant, used in healing practices, highlighting Bhaisajyaguru’s role as a spiritual and physical healer.
This beautifully crafted statue of Bhaisajyaguru serves as a powerful symbol of healing, making it an ideal piece for promoting wellness and spiritual growth in any space.
