Bhaisajyaguru, also known as the Medicine Buddha or Healing Buddha, is believed to offer spiritual healing and well-being to those who worship him properly. It is said that merely touching his image can bring about healing. In Tibetan Buddhism, Bhaisajyaguru may be depicted as either a Buddha or a Bodhisattva. When shown as a Buddha, he bears the four superior marks of a Buddha, including the urn (a protuberance above the nose) and Ushinisha (a bulge on the skull), which symbolize his enlightened nature. He is usually seated in meditation with his legs crossed, his left hand in meditation mudra holding a medicine bowl, while his right hand, in charity mudra, holds the fruit or a branch of the myrobalan plant—known for its medicinal properties in India and other tropical regions.
Key Symbolism:
- Healing Power: Bhaisajyaguru is believed to offer spiritual and physical healing, with his image offering a cure through devotion.
- Medicine Bowl: The bowl he holds represents the healing elixir that he offers to alleviate suffering.
- Myrobalan Fruit: Symbolizes the medicinal plant used for healing, indicating his role in curing ailments.
This intricately designed statue of Bhaisajyaguru is a powerful symbol of healing, making it an ideal addition to spaces focused on health, well-being, and spiritual growth.
