About Chakrasamvara – The Wheel of Bliss
Chakrasamvara, also known as the Wheel of Bliss, is a central figure in the Anuttarayoga Tantra of the Vajrayana Buddhist tradition. Widely revered in the Himalayan regions and Tibet, Chakrasamvara appears in numerous forms, ranging from peaceful to wrathful, each representing different meditation practices suited to specific emotional and psychological states.

The Thangka depicts Shri Chakrasamvara, a blue deity with four faces (blue, red, yellow, and white) and twelve hands. Each face is adorned with three eyes and bared fangs, symbolizing his profound wisdom and power. Chakrasamvara’s posture is dynamic, as he presses his right leg on the breast of Kalaratri, a fierce red deity, and his left leg on the head of Yama, the lord of death.

The deity is accompanied by Vajravarahi, his red consort, who embraces him in a dance of divine union. She holds a blood-filled skullcup in one hand and a curved knife in the other, symbolizing the transformative power of wisdom and compassion. Together, they are surrounded by a blazing fire of pristine awareness, representing the transformative power of their union.
